Simpsons Sum Up Fear on Chalkboard

SOUTH PARK - WE'D STAND BESIDE YOU IF WE WEREN'T SO SCARED

simpsons

It hard to fault the lack of support. This is truly some scary shit. In the heavily censored South Park episode that aired last week, the joke was that Muhammad was dressed as a bear because he could not be shown as a cartoon in the wake of death threats made against Danish cartoonists by Islamist extremists. That's when the death threats started and why Comedy Central beeped out every reference made to Muhammad when the show finally aired.

And on one chalkboard, the folks behind The Simpsons explained why there isn't more outrage. One needs to look no further than Theo van Gogh.

Simpsons Coke Commercial We Didn't See
Published February 8, 2010 @ 10:17 in The Simpsons

HomerWe in Canada don't get to see all the new Super Bowl ads. CTV paid for the rights to broadcast the game, and if Coke didn't want to pay CTV to air their Simpsons ad, then we don't get to see it.

But wait... we do get to see it. In fact, I'm going to share it with you all right now, and it won't cost Coke a dime.

Here's the Simpsons Coke advertisement that aired last night.

My Favourite Dead Simpsons Characters
Published October 27, 2009 @ 19:53 in Friday Fives, The Simpsons

The Number FiveI used to do this every Friday, but I've only done it once this year. This isn't a Friday, but I'm doing this anyway. Who's going to stop me? You? Ha ha ha ha ha.

Here are my favourite Simpsons characters that were killed off.

  1. Bleeding Gums Murphy
  2. Beatrice "Bea" Simmons
  3. Frank Grimes
  4. Maude Flanders
  5. Poochie
Stark Raving Dad
Published July 5, 2009 @ 18:07 in The Simpsons

homerDid you hear Michael Jackson passed away? CNN is still calling it "breaking news" in their 24/7 coverage of Jackson's death. Coverage that contains almost nothing in terms of new developments, by the way, but I digress.

Jacko's death will reward those of us who still pray at the alter of The Simpsons' glory years when Fox re-airs its 1991 episode “Stark Raving Dad,” in which Jackson voiced a 300-pound mental patient who believed that he was the famous singer. It's a stellar episode, and even though I own the episode on DVD, I'll be tuning to watch the best Sunday night @ 8pm episode in years.

Thanks to Horonymous for the tip.

Sexy Isotopes
Published June 11, 2009 @ 10:43 in Politics, The Simpsons

HomerA medical isotope shortage isn't sexy, despite what natural resources minister Lisa Raitt said.

The Springfield Isotopes, an AA minor league baseball team that plays its home games at Duff Stadium, however, is sexy. Just ask Dancin' Homer.

Mercy Killing The Simpsons
Published February 28, 2009 @ 20:04 in Television, The Simpsons

SimpsonsFox has ordered another two seasons of The Simpsons, extending the longest-running series in prime time history through its 22nd season. That will put The Simpsons at 493 episodes. The Simpsons has won 24 Emmy Awards, 23 Annie Awards, four Genesis Awards, nine International Monitor Awards, seven Environmental Media Awards and a Peabody Award. It also won my heart nearly the moment it debuted almost twenty years ago.

I could take this opportunity to gush about my all-time favourite show and sing its praises. I could do that, as I've done it several times before, but that's not what I'm feeling these days.

It wasn't long ago that I simply refused to miss an episode, but I no longer feel that way. When I catch a new episode every now and then, I still find it somewhat amusing, but I find myself missing those first nine or so seasons of solid gold. I miss the glory days of The Simpsons, when it was televison I simply couldn't afford to miss.

Part of me is happy to see the show continue, as it's still decent and I like seeing Homer and the gang, but another part of me fears it's simply diluting the show's previous excellence. With 500 episodes in the can, will that overwhelming quantity detract from the quality of those initial 150 episodes?

Here are some posts from happier times. I never thought I'd say this, but I think it might be time for a mercy killing of my all-time favourite show.

Bart Simpson Promotes Scientology?
Published January 30, 2009 @ 20:44 in The Simpsons

HomerAs host of the greatest Scientology debate in the history of the blogosphere, I feel compelled to clarify something to the confused. Bart Simpson does not promote Scientology, it's the voice of Bart Simpson, Nancy Cartwright, who is robo-calling people to push them to some Scientology event.

As a long time fan of The Simpsons, I'm pretty sure Bart's not down with Operating Thetan Level 7. The video below makes me cringe. Enough is enough... I'm bringing down L. Ron Hubbard's expensive little scam. Aye, carumba!
