Erasing an Era

Published February 13, 2008 @ 18:37 in My 2 Cents

thumbsdownA life long baseball fan, I've never seen a pitcher as good as Rocket Roger Clemens. When it comes to offensive prowess, I've never seen a hitter as good as Barry Bonds. As far as I'm concerned, you can take a big ol' eraser and scrub the marvellous careers of both men from the record book.

In a sense, an entire era has now been erased. I'm sure both Clemens and Bonds were stellar before they took performance enhancing drugs, but a little juice spill ruins the entire meal. The steroids era, as it will be called by future generations, has claimed the greatest the game has to offer.

Many will shrug their shoulders and look forward. I can't help but look back, at what was and what wasn't, and wonder how the hell I'll ever know the difference. Does it matter? Yes, and if you're asking that question, you're not a fan of baseball.

Mike,
Its weird, I dont care if they took them, because I know that in the end, what they did was meaningless. I want to know that my team, the blue jays didn't take them, that they are still the innocent team. That matters to me. I am a Blue Jay fan first and a major League Baseball fan 2nd. With Barry and Roger out, it means so much more that other players, both jays and not, played the game clean.
We will never know who was clean or who wasnt, maybe with the steroid Era out of the record books, George Bell or Barfield or jimmy Key/Steib make the hall of fame with their numbers.

It sounds like Clemens started juicing in Toronto. That's where he hooked up with McNamee, after all.

Why do you write that what they did was meaningless? What makes you think our Jays are so innocent?

Have you heard/read about his testimony? Lying and denying is sad enough, but pinning all the blame on his wife? That's a new low for the Rocket.
